Trauma informed therapy and consultation, use of a “wrap around” concept of intervention for children, especially children within the care system. This is where with younger children, the therapy intervention offered is via the parent or carer in the first instance. This is because paying special attention to parent child relationships and the child’s communication through behaviour can help understand and address many childhood issues effectively.
Approaches used include parent/ child dyad work, therapeutic consultation to parents/carers/services and parent child relationship work, short and longer term individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults.
Working with the knowledge that early relationships can have an impact across the lifespan, Sharon provides specialist therapeutic intervention during the perinatal period prior to birth up to two years of age. Intervention involves working therapeutically with parent(s), often with baby present to look at bonding, attachment and working through difficult past experiences with the aim of bringing about positive changes in the parent child relationship as it develops. This approach is particularly useful for parents who have experienced past difficulties within their own family of origin or who are currently experiencing mental health difficulties. It is also a very useful approach for teenage parents as well as foster carers and adoptive parents..
